Changes to Farm Help

16th July 2007

On the 1st July 2007 important changes to Farm Help were introduced. The new arrangements allow for re-entry to the program under certain conditions for those who have had Farm Help previously.

Re-entry is only for additional professional advice to $2,500 or for exit assistance when the farm is sold. The Re-establishment Grant is now $75,000 with a higher cut-off assets test to $262,500.

Rural Financial Counsellor, Graeme Thornton, said "The increased grant may provide more incentive for farmers to leave farming in light of current difficulties and ongoing viability".
